As Ruby goes up, Rails comes down Posted on March 07, 2008 at 03:29 PM

One thing that was interesting to me while at acts_as_conference was the amount of subtle Rails bashing that went on. While no one wanted to overtly bash Rails, it seems like there were alot of people pushing other frameworks (Ezra, merb, was one of the offenders, in my opinion). And it appears that the easiest way to promote another framework was to bash Rails.
I was reading about Waves ( http://rubywaves.com ) today. And while reading about it, I stumbled across this site ( http://ramaze.net/#other-frameworks ), that lists several (about 20) other Ruby frameworks. i don’t know that I really see a reason for all of these frameworks but it does emphasize the importance of learning RUBY.
I can’t lie – I was one of the many idiots that actually learned Rails before REALLY learning Ruby. it didn’t take me long to realize that I could only go so far before I had to take a step back and step up my Ruby game to really get the power of Rails.
But getting back to the frameworks, I love Rails. And as one blog poster said, “Imagine how much better Rails could be if people like this helped instead of creating yet another framework”
My rule going forward is that I’ll stay abreast of the new frameworks but I’m not getting into any of them seriously until there’s a book. With that said, it looks like Merb will be getting that serious look because its book is on the way…
